"Art, when really understood is the province of every human being...it is simply a question of doing things, anything, well.."     Robert Henri

With each new work I allow inspiration to take me by the hand and lead me to the new and the unexplored. Each work involves a process of discovery that slowly reveals the nature of the subject, be it a portrait, landscape, or still life. I challenge myself to see the subject as honestly as possible by discarding all preconceptions and by breaking down what I see into basic shapes, values, and color, at the same time seeking to tell a meaningul story. My goal is to express beauty and intense feeling.

Oils and terracotta clay are my mediums. My favorite genres are portraits and plein air landscapes. My training as an architect has given me appreciation of the essential underlying structures of geometry, anatomy, and composition. I am deeply inspired by the old renaissance and impressionist masters, and more recently by the work of John Singer Sargent, Edgar Payne, Joaquin Sorolla, Morgan Weistling, and Richard Schmid.

I am an architect and emerging artist living in San Diego, California. I have a degree in architecture from Cal Poly, Pomona and have received my art training at Watts Atelier in Encinitas, and Mary Buckman's Sculpture Studio in North Park.
